LAKE ELMO, MN -- Winona State University fought off a challenge from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and won the two-day, 36-hole, Wildwood Lodge Invitational held at the Tartan Park Golf Coure.
The Warriors, led by meet medalist
Michelle Narveson, finished off the second day, on the par 72, 5,955yard course, with a 320 total, which combined with their first-day total of 319 gavme them a 639, just one stroke ahead of UNO.
The Warriors and Mavericks came into the second day of the 13-team event tied with 319 totals.
Narveson, who was the individual leader after the first day, struggled a bit with a 78 after opening with a 74. But her 152 total was good enough to win the 73-player meet by one stroke.
Courtney Sovereign came up with a 77 to cut two strokes off her first day and finished in fifth place with a 156, four strokes off the pace set by her teammate.
Rounding out the Top 15 finishes by the Warriors was
Emma Schmitz, who tied for 14th. Schmitz also had a better second day, as she came in with a round of 80, three strokes better than her first 18 holes of play.
