WINONA, MN -- Winona State University head football coach Tom Sawyer has announced the signing of 29 high school football players for the 2010 season.
There is also a group of four players transferring in.
The focus of the recruiting class was on both offensive and defensive linemen with an emphasis on defense. The Warriors signed eight offensive linemen and six defensive linemen. The rest of the recruiting class consisted of five defensive backs and five linebackers. On the offensive side of the ball, the Warriors signed one fullback, quarterback, tight end and placekicker each.
From a regional break out the Warriors signed 12 players from Minnesota, seven from Wisconsin, six from Illinois, three from Iowa and one from California.
Winona State is a member of NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. WSU is one of the more successful Division II programs in the past 14 years, compiling a 153-44 record for a .777 winning percentage. WSU also has also won six outright conference championships and tied for two others in the past 14 years. Winona State has advanced on to NCAA playoff action in five seasons and to Mineral Water Bowl play in two seasons during the past 14 seasons.
