Warrior Tennis Signs Three In Fall Signing Period

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State head tennis coach Heather Pierce has announced the signings of three talented players who will join the program for the 2016-17 academic year.

Tayla Card (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS), Mia Davis (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Kaisey Skibba (Verona, Wis./Middleton HS) each have signed their letters of intent to play their collegiate careers at Winona State.

Card is a 5-year letter winner and two-time Wright County conference champion and two-time All-Conference performer. In her high school career, she's amassed 95 victories and has been a team captain for two seasons. Card also was an all-conference honorable mention performer on the Hutchinson High School softball team and participated in the state meet on the school's dance team.

Coach Pierce on Card: "Tayla is a hard-working, multi-sport athlete whose athleticism will translate well to a college tennis career. Tayla will immediately add depth to our lineup, and I am confident that her desire to win will distinguish her as a strong competitor on our team."

Davis is currently ranked No. 4 in Minnesota and No. 12 in the Plains on TennisRecruiting.net. In six years of playing varsity tennis for Apple Valley High School, Davis possesses a singles record of 94-31 and is a four-time All-Conference performer, while being named honorable mention as an eighth grader. As a senior, Davis compiled a 17-2 singles record and took third place as a doubles player at the state sectional meet.

Coach Pierce on Davis: "Mia is an experienced tennis player whose game thrives on versatility and quickness. Her dynamic style and competitive nature allow her to challenge any opponent. I expect Mia to have a very successful career here at Winona State."

Skibba has garnered accolades as both a singles and doubles player, earning All-Area Singles Player of the Year (2014) and All-Area Doubles Player of the Year (2015) for Middleton High School, a team state champion her sophomore year. Skibba finished her high school career as the DI doubles state champion as a senior and was a section champion and individual state qualifier all four years.

Coach Pierce on Skibba: "Kaisey excels at a high level in both the classroom and on the tennis court. She has seen plenty of success on both the singles and doubles court, and I believe her knowledge of the game and mental toughness will allow her to have an immediate impact on our program."

Pierce has been one of the NSIC's best as both a player and a coach, earning NSIC Freshman of the Year in 2008, NSIC Player of the Year in 2011 and NSIC Coach of the Year in 2012. Winona State has won eight NSIC team championships and nine NSIC Tournament titles in program history.
