Warriors Finish Fifth At NSIC Indoor Championships

MANKATO, Minn. – The Winona State track and field team put together a strong performance on the second day at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field championships on Friday, coming away with a fifth place finish overall.

The Warriors got provisional qualifying marks from Alyssa Rausch in the shot put and from the 4x400-meter relay team.

Rausch came away with second at the meet, recording a toss of 49' 4 1/4" (15.04-meters). Rausch's season-best of 49' 11 1/4" (15.22-meters) is currently eighth-best mark in Division II and will wait to see if she will be participating in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Megan Seidl, Brittney Schyvinck, Kelsey Bethke and Catherine Whitcomb also put together another strong finish. They finished the event with a third place finish, crossing the finish line in 3:52.42. Their converted time of 3:47.45 from last week's Red & White Open is currently the seventh best mark in Division II in that event and will also wait to see if they will be participating in the NCAA Indoor Championships as well.

The Warriors as a whole had multiple personal bests on the day.

Catherine Whitcomb ran a personal best 57.32 in the 400-meter run, which netted her fourth in the event and fourth all-time in the WSU record book. Brittany Schyvinck finished right behind her in fifth, with a personal best of 58.40, netting her the sixth best time in WSU history.

Katie Bagley topped her already second place mark in the WSU record book, netting a sixth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.13.

McKenzie Carper's personal best of 3:04.23 netted her the third best time in WSU school history in the 1000-meter run, taking eighth in the event overall.

Senior Jordan Skelly concluded her final NSIC Indoor Championship on a high note, recording a personal best in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:44.78. She beat her own third-best mark in the WSU record book by more than 11 seconds.

Andrea Bartz also put together a personal best in the triple jump, with her jumps totaling 37' 8 3/4" (11.50-meters). She improved her already personal best by three inches and passed Gretchen Harty for third on WSU's all-time list in the event.

In the 55-meter hurdles, Brittany Dulak found herself tying Jessica Devine's mark of 9.03. She improved her personal best time by 0.22 seconds while climbing up the WSU record book.

Winona State will wait to see who will make appearances at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13 and 14. The Warriors then prepare for the opener of the outdoor  season, as WSU will travel to Rock Island, Ill. to compete in the Viking Olympics and the Warriors' distance runners will compete at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on March 27-28.
