ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Winona State track and field team opened up the outdoor season on a high note. At the Viking Olympics, the Warriors had three NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifiers in the hammer throw, taking the top three spots in the meet in the process.
Alissa Rausch won the event with a 53.59-meter (175' 10") throw, netting the fourth-best throw in school history. Delaney Miller also set a personal best with a 52.55-meter (172' 5") toss, setting the seventh-best mark in school history. Nicole Nelson was the third Warrior to provisionally qualify with a 51.72-meter (169' 8") throw, setting the ninth-best mark in Warrior history.
It was also a successful day for the Warriors distance runners in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
Jordan Skelly legged out a 4:40.37 in the 1500-meter run, breaking her personal best and setting the second-best mark in school history. Amanda Kaiser also found herself breaking into the Warrior record book with a 4:54.90, setting the 10th best mark in the school's history.
Jessica Young also set a personal best in the 5000-meter run with an 18:02.71, setting the third-best mark in school history.
The Warriors will compete in the heptathalon, discus, and shot put events on Saturday in the Viking Olympics.
