DES MOINES, Iowa – A week after setting the program record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Jordan Skelly decided that she could shatter it by an even wider margin.
On Saturday in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Skelly crossed the finish line in 10:35.39, breaking her previous record of 10:46.67 by more than 11 seconds.
Her mark also provisionally qualified her for the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship. She held the 15th best time in Division II coming into the day.
The Winona State track and field team also had a strong showing at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
Alissa Rausch won the discus event with a 49.51-meter (162' 5") throw. Caitie Zepczyk took second with a toss of 45.20-meters (148' 3") and Ashley Thooft finished third with a 44.30-meter (145' 4") toss.
In the hammer throw, Abbey Ristow paced the Warriors with a second-place finish, recording a toss of 50.70-meters (166' 4"). Rausch finished third with a 50.53-meter (165' 9") throw.
The Warriors' next meet will be at the NSIC Multi-Event Championships in Mankato, Minn., where Olivia Fixsen and Amanda Schaefer are scheduled to compete with the first day of the two-day meet set for Sunday, April 26.
