INDIANAPOLIS – Four members of the Winona State track and field team will be representing the Warriors at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Allendale, Michigan hosted by Grand Valley State on May 21-23, the NCAA announced today.
A day after each earning USTFCCCA All-Region accolades, freshman Kaitlyn Long, sophomore Delaney Miller, and seniors Alissa Rausch and Jordan Skelly learned they've each posted marks during the season good enough to qualify for the outdoor championships.
Senior Alissa Rausch will be making her third trip to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship in her four-year career, previously competing in the shot put and discus in 2012 and 2013. This year, Rausch will be competing in three events – the discus and shot put, along with the hammer throw. Rausch has top 10 marks in Division II in all three events, highlighted by the discus where she ranks as the nation's top thrower with her automatic qualifying mark of 183' 5".
Long, on the heels of her national title in the weight throw at the 2015 NCAA Indoor National Championships, will be competing in the hammer throw thanks to last weekend's mark of 189' 11" at the NSIC Outdoor Championships, which ranks eighth-best in Division II.
Miller will be making an appearance in the discus event as her throw of 157' 1" stands as the 14th-best mark in Division II.
Skelly's school-record time of 10:35.12 in the 3000-meter steeplechase at last weekend's NSIC Outdoor Championships was enough to earn her the 15th-best mark in Division II and a spot in the national championship field in that event.
