MANKATO, Minn. – Winona State track and field opened their season at the Chuck Peterson Open. The Warriors were crowed champions in four events.
Kaitlyn Long won the weight throw and
Kathleen Taylor won the shot put.
Megan Seidl won the 200m and
Kari Schneiss won the 600m.
Long's throw of 21.71m is the longest throw by any NCAA athlete this year. Long automatically qualifies for the NCAA Indoor Championships with her throw.
The Warriors picked up provisional qualifying marks in the weight, shot and 200m run. Taylor provisionally qualified in the weight and shot. Long provisionally qualified in the shot and
Megan Seidl provisionally qualified in the 200m.
Seidl won the 200m in a time of 25.15, the second fastest in Division II time at the moment.
Kari Schneiss beat out teammate
Karina Elford in the 600m, winning in a time of 1:46.47. Elford finished in a time of 1:48.13.
Winona State swept the top three spots in the weight throw. Long won with a throw of 21.71m, winning by over five meters. Taylor was second with a throw of 16.39m and
Mikayla Lindell was third with a toss of 16.02m. WSU held ten of the top 12 spots in the weight throw.
The Warriors also took the top three spots in the shot put. Taylor, a WSU freshman, won the event with a throw of 14.29m. The freshman thrower ranks third nationally. Long was second with a mark of 13.84m and
Ashley Thooft was third after throwing 13.00m.
Olivia Fixen took third in the women's pentathlon. She was third in the 60m hurdles and third in the high jump during the competition. Hailey Reinke won both the long jump and high jump during the pentathlon, she finished fourth in the overall competition. Fixen and Reinke rank 11
th and 14
th in the nation after Saturday.
Alison Johnson took second in the 800m, crossing the line in a time of 2:18.57. Johnson's time ranks seventh nationally.
Amanda Schaefer tied for third with a height of 1.60m in the high jump.
Taylor Juresh took third in the long jump with a mark of 5.48m.
The 4x400m relay team of Schneiss, Elford,
Brittany Schyvinck and Seidl were third in a time of 4:04.62.
