MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Winona State track and field team showed off its depth and well-roundedness to win the team title at the MIAA vs. NSIC Showdown Friday and Saturday at Bearcat Stadium on the campus of Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri.
The Warriors compiled 154 points to claim the top spot, beating out 2016 indoor national champion Lincoln, which had 149 points. Emporia State was third, followed by Central Missouri and the host Bearcats.
The Warriors won two individual event titles.
Amanda Kaiser won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:54.29, while
Tiffany Sunderland and
McKenzie Carper finished third and fourth.
Jordan Paschke also won the 5000-meter run, finishing in a time of 18:12.24.
A Warrior finished second in three separate throwing events.
Nicole Nelson reached a provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw, as her throw of 177' 7" placed her second.
Ashley Thooft picked up a provisional qualifying mark as well with a second place finish in the shot put, recording a 45' ½" toss, a personal best and the sixth-best throw in WSU history. Thooft also finished second in the discus with her second provisional qualifying mark of the day, throwing 150' 7".
Megan Seidl finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.47, shaving two hundredths of a second off her previous best for the second fastest time in program history.
Brittany Schyvinck also added a second place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.00.
Katie Bagley (2:18.91),
Hope Willenbrink (2:20.75) and
Madeline Tompach (2:23.85) finished second, third and fourth in the 800-meter run, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Seidl,
Taylor Vogel,
Ali Skluzacek and Schyvinck finished third with a time of 3:54.49, the seventh fastest time in program history.
Next up for Winona State is the Lee Krough Invitational next Saturday in St. Peter, Minnesota.
