SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Winona State track and field team earned three more individual titles Saturday to claim a second place team finish at the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
WSU finished with 137.5 points to earn a strong second place result. Minnesota State won the championship with 152.33 points, while Augustana was third with 125.5 points. U-Mary and Northern State rounded out the top five.
The Warriors had another strong all-around showing in the shot put, finishing first, third and fourth. Ashley Thooft earned the title, throwing 44' 7", while Kaitlyn Long took third with a toss of 44' ½" and Heather Buckler was fourth at 44'.
Megan Seidl won the 200-meter dash title in just shy of a school-record pace with a time of 24.25, a personal record for the junior and the second-best time in program history.
Seidl won her second NSIC title of the day when she picked up the win in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 56.11 to beat second place by more than a second. Brittany Schyvinck added a third place finish in the event, narrowly missing out on second place by two hundredths of a second at 57.18, a personal record for the junior and the sixth fastest 400-meter dash in program history.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Hailey Deschaine, Tamika Tucker, Schyvinck and Seidl also finished just shy of the win, taking second with a time of 46.86, just behind Minnesota State's time of 46.84. The mark still was the fastest time in program history, topping their own record set earlier this season.
The Warriors took second, third and fourth in the discus finals, as Erin Bramble set a personal record with a 155' throw, the ninth-best in team history. Thooft took third at 141' 3", while Abbey Ristow finished fourth at 146' 3".
Katie Bagley finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.17 as did the 4x400-meter relay team, as Bagley, Seidl, Schyvinck and Taylor Vogel finished in a time of 3:55.86.
Andrea Bartz also picked up a top five result in the triple jump, finishing fifth with a leap of 37' 4".
Winona State will send competitors to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.
