McCauley, Spencer garner NSIC Football Player of the Week honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Following a 37-7 win over Upper Iowa University on Saturday, Winona State University had two players honored with NSIC Football Player of the Week recognition, the league announced on Monday.

Carter McCauley has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week, and Andrew Spencer is the Defensive Player of the Week.

McCauley etched his named atop the Warrior record book Saturday, becoming Winona's all-timer leader with his 46th career field goal made. The senior went 3-for-4 in field goal attempts and 4-for-4 in PATs in Saturday's victory. He also recorded 496 yards on eight kickoffs, including three touchbacks.

McCauley is 10-for-11 in field goals and 22-for-23 in PATs this season. His 10 field goals rank second in the NSIC. His season-long 48-yarder moved him into first place on Winona's career list.

Spencer notched his first career two-interception day, and returned both for touchdowns. His first pick-six accounted for Winona's first points of the game, and his second, a 65-yard effort, came with 17 seconds left in the first half.

The senior also led all players on Saturday with 10 tackles, including a team-best seven solo tackles. Spencer also had two pass breakups and a tackle-for-loss.

His five interceptions this season lead the NSIC, and he ranks sixth in solo tackles (27). Spencer is tied for ninth all-time in Winona history with 12 career interceptions.

No. 22 Winona State (5-0, 1-0 NSIC South) travels to No. 6 University of Sioux Falls on Saturday for a pivotal division showdown. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
