WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University head women's basketball coach Scott Ballard has announced the addition of three recruits to the Warriors' 2018-19 roster.
Jenna Bruss, Sydney Flier and Sydney Lodermeier each signed National Letters of Intent during the NCAA early signing period and will arrive on campus next fall.
"We are excited to announce the signing of three outstanding high school student-athletes for next season, Ballard said. "Each of these young ladies are high character individuals with a great work ethic, skill set and toughness that will translate to success for our program in the future."
Bruss, a 5-8 combo guard, was a First Team All-Conference selection as a junior at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Wisconsin. She averaged 14.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game last season.
"Jenna is a tough competitor that can play the shooting guard and point guard positions. She plays with a good basketball I.Q. and has a versatile skill set offensively. Her work ethic, toughness and attitude on the defensive end will fit well with our team philosophy. Jenna will give us depth at the guard positions and has a tremendous upside."
Flier, a 6-2 power post player, attends Waupun High School in Wisconsin. She averaged a double-double her junior year with 15.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game.
"Sydney has good range with her shot and finishes well at the rim with either hand. Seldom do you find a post player with her skill set, size and power at the D-II level. She will give us a power low post and shot blocking presence, and we expect her to be an impactful player for us during her career."
Lodermeier, a versatile 5-11 player, helped lead Goodhue High School in Minnesota to back-to-back Class A State Championships the past two years. In the process, she was named First Team All-State both years and enters her senior campaign having already scored 1,443 career points. As a junior, Lodermeier averaged 14.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists per game.
"Syd is a complete player that has the ability to be impactful at both ends of the floor. She is a great competitor and plays well within a system because of her understanding of the game. Her ability to defend all five positions and play multiple positions on offense will make her very valuable to our team.
The Warriors are have posted a combined 52-13 record over the past two seasons, and reached the NCAA Regional in 2015-16. Winona is off to a 1-0 start in the 2017-18 campaign.
