MANKATO, Minn. – Kaitlyn Long won the weight throw on Friday, highlighting the Warriors first day at the 2017 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Long beat her season best, throwing a 22.38 meters/73-5.25 feet, setting a new NSIC meet record. Winona State is currently in second place with a total of 34.50 points.
Long's throw currently ranks third best in nation among all NCAA athletes. She remains first in NCAA Division II.
The Warriors would take five of the top-eight spots in the weight throw, earning the team 23 points. Katie Taylor was fourth with a throw of 17.46 meters/57-03.50 feet.
Erin Perkins was fifth with a throw of 16.74 meters/54-11.25 feet.
Nicole Nelson was seventh and
Mikayla Lindell was eighth with throws of 16.39 meters/53-9.25 feet and 16.18 meters/53-1.00 feet.
Hailey Deschaine was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.64 meters/18-6.00 feet earing WSU five points.
The Warriors earned 6.50 points in the high jump. Reinke was fifth with a height of 1.65 meters/5-5.00 feet and Schaefer was sixth with her jump of 1.60 meters/5-3.00 feet.
Olivia Anger gave Winona State a point with an eighth place finish in the 3,000 meters. She crossed the line in 10:31.42.
Four Warriors had qualifying times on Friday to advance to event finals on Saturday.
Megan Seidl,
Brittany Schyvinck and
Ali Skluzacek will run in the 400 meters finals tomorrow.
Anna Rogahn will run in the finals of the 1,000 meters after qualifying sixth.
The second day of the NSIC Indoor Championships begins tomorrow at 11 a.m.
