MANKATO, Minn. – Winona State finished third at the 2017 NSIC Indoor Championships. The Warriors scored big in the shot put, 400 meters and mile run to score a total of 1003.50 points during the championships.
Kathleen Taylor won the shot put for Winona State on Saturday.
The day on the track began with the mile run and a fourth place finish from
Raissa Hansen. Hansen ran a 5:02.65 to earn five points.
Nikki Staffen was third with a time of 5:07.45and
Amanda Kaiser was seventh with a time of 5:08.71.
Megan Seidl was able to continue the Warriors hot start, taking fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.82 seconds. The Warriors had two more top-eight finishes as
Brittany Schyvinck and
Ali Skluzacek finished seventh and eighth.
While the Warriors were getting 21 from early races,
Tamika Tucker and
Amanda Schaefer were scoring in the triple jump. Tucker was sixth with a mark of 11.50 meters/37-8.75 feet. Schaefer's jump of 11.35 meters/37-3.00 feet placed her eighth.
In the 1,000 meters,
Anna Rogahn took fourth with a time of 2:59.80.
The Warriors made up big points in another throwing event, taking home a total of 27 points.
Kathleen Taylor won the event with a throw of 15.18 meters/49-9.75 feet.
Heather Buckler was second with a throw of 14.56 meters/47-9.25 feet.
Kaitlyn Long was fourth and Brea Perron was fifth to round out the Warriors scoring.
In the final event of the day the Warriors 4x400m relay team of Schyvinck,
Ali Skluzacek,
Johnna Patterson and Seidl took second with a time of 3:53.47. The time was good enough for a NCAA provisional time.
