WAYNE, Neb. – Winona State University's shooting woes continued Friday night at Wayne State College as the Warrior offense produced a season-low output in a 74-37 loss.
Hannah McGlone, Allie Pickrain and Liz Evenocheck each entered the tough road test averaging at least 10 points per contest, but were held to a combined 23 points by the Wildcats. Winona State shot a season-low 25 percent in the setback.
Down by five points in the first quarter, Pickrain sunk two three-pointers to give the Warriors a 10-9 edge as WSU hoped to regain its long-range shooting stroke which had gone cold over the last two losses.
However, the Wildcats quickly answered back with an 8-0 run to close the opening quarter and led for the remainder of the night.
Alyssa Jurges slashed to the lane for a layup early in the second quarter to make it a 17-12 game, but that was as close as the Warriors would come to the lead with Wayne State pulling away for a 31-21 lead at halftime.
Playing catch-up after the break, Winona shot just 19 percent from the field over the final two quarters and went 0-for-9 from downtown.
The Wildcats forced 14 Warriors turnovers and converted those miscues into 17 points.
Pickrain lead WSU with nine points, shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. McGlone led the team in rebounds with 10.
The Warriors fall to 13-4 (9-4 NSIC) after their third straight loss, while Wayne State improves to 15-6 (9-4 NSIC).
Winona State will face their toughest test to date on Saturday, looking to snap their current skid as the Warriors travel to No. 11 Augustana University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
